On the 31st of January 2019 Louis was invited to do a presentation and talk at a meeting of Knysna U3A (University of the Third Age) at Brenton-on-Sea. More than two hundred people attended the event, many of which were non-members travelling from places as far as George to listen to Louis; according to Sesel Hartshorne, treasurer, one of their record attendances.
Afterwards Judy Dixon, chairperson, Knysna U3A, remarked as follows:
“On Thursday 31st January the Brenton on Sea Community Hall was packed to capacity: the crowds flocked to hear Louis Jordaan give them a PEEK AT THE TREASURE CHEST! The occasion was the monthly General meeting of the Knysna U3A and with the local newspapers running the usual write up about forthcoming events Louis’ reputation ensured that the public flocked to the venue, visitors as well as U3A members. And none was disappointed…
Louis’ inimitable style of focusing on the unseen soon had the audience gasping with amazement or chuckling at his humorous comments. From giving interpretive names to the tiny succulents that most miss to forcing us to stare hard to ‘see’ some insect so camouflaged that he had to indicate its presence, he held our attention for over an hour and had us clamouring for more. The range he covered was immense and he assured us there is still plenty out there, waiting to be discovered. So there will certainly be a follow up trip to his Treasure Chest in the Karoo. He is rightly known as the ‘Man who makes the veld come alive!’”
